Harry Kane says England s players did their country proud by opening their World Cup campaign with a commanding 6-2 victory over Iran.

Bukayo Saka scored twice, while Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish were also on target as Gareth Southgate s side recorded their biggest ever win in their opening match at a major tournament.

Kane, who provided assists for Sterling and Rashford, saluted his team-mates after they made a real statement of intent in Group B at Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.

De Jong, who joined the Citizens in 2009 started just eleven matches in the Premier League last season and could be after a move away from the Ethiad Stadium.

Harry Kewell has conceded his football career might be over having struggled to find a new club since returning to England.

The 34-year-old attacker, who left A-League club Melbourne Victory after one season, moved to England in June due to his wife s desire to be close to her sick mother.

Kewell, who has played 58 matches for the Socceroos, has been unable to find a new employer in England, where he last played for Liverpool in 2008, and after almost four months of searching the Australian forward has revealed it may be time for a career change.

If something comes up and it is the right thing for me I will have a look at it, Kewell told Sky Sports.

Liverpool announce Milner signing

Liverpool have announced the signing of Manchester City midfielder James Milner on a free transfer, subject to a medical.

The 29-year-old s contract at the Etihad Stadium is due to expire at the end of this month and, while manager Manuel Pellegrini had expressed a desire to see Milner remain, the former Newcastle United and Aston Villa man has opted to make his exit.

Milner arrived at City from Villa Park in 2010, going on to win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield.

Future fails to worry Pearce

England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce says he has no concerns about his future despite his contract expiring next summer.

Pearce has been in charge of the Young Lions since 2007 and has also had spells as caretaker manager of the senior team and coach of Team GB during the London Olympic Games.

During Fabio Capello s time as national team boss, Pearce doubled up as Under-21 manager and a senior team coach but he has not reprised the latter role since Roy Hodgson s appointment.

Chelsea have announced that midfielder Oscar has agreed to join Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.

Following widespread speculation, the Brazil international has finalised a move after the Premier League leaders accepted an offer reportedly worth €60million.

Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans says he cannot rule out the prospect of signing for Inter at the end of the season.

Ernesto Valverde will not take charge of Athletic Bilbao next season amid speculation he will imminently be announced as the new Barcelona coach.

Valverde has been in charge of the Basque club since 2013 and led Athletic to a seventh-place finish this term.

While Barcelona are yet to confirm the name of their new coach an announcement is scheduled for May 29 Valverde has been considered among the front runners for the post since Luis Enrique said in March he would leave Camp Nou at the end of the current campaign.
