Ljungberg eyes European return

Former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is considering a return to Europe when his contract with MLS side Chicago expires in January.

The former Sweden international spent 10 years in the English Premier League with Arsenal and West Ham, before being lured to the United States by MLS franchise the Seattle Sounders in 2008.

But after being traded to the Chicago Fire earlier in 2010, the 33-year-old announced he would leave the MLS when his contract expires in 2010 and he is now eyeing a return to European football.

My contract is up in the new year, so I have to stay there for now. I will then look at my options and see what happens, Ljungberg told Sky Sports.

I have got to look at the different offers, there are lots of clubs that are interested in…

Sergio Aguero has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, the Premier League champions have announced.

Aguero s fresh deal is a major coup for City and continues an outstanding week for the club, which also saw captain Vincent Kompany and playmaker David Silva sign five-year extensions.

Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov are others to have committed their long-term future to City during the close-season, but tying down Aguero will arguably delight the club s supporters most.

Best Odds: 6/4

Bookmaker:

Opening up their Premier League campaign on Monday night, Manchester City will make the trip to an empty Molineux in a contest that could prove to be a lively encounter.

Wolves

Starting with the hosts, while an altered Wolves side might have seen Championship outfit Stoke knock them out of the EFL Cup in midweek, they did manage to mark their Premier League return in eye-catching fashion. Bagging two goals in the opening six minutes away at last year s surprise package Sheffield United, the Oranges left with a deserved 2-0 victory at Bramall Lane and many have them tipped as a real Champions League dark horse this time around. Signing off the extended 2019/2020 campaign with back-to-back 2-0 and 3-0 victories on home soil against Cryst…

Cameroon v Australia: Behich takes heart from display against Germany ahead of crucial Group B clash

Aziz Behich believes Australia have plenty of reasons to feel positive as they prepare to face Cameroon in a key Group B encounter at the Confederations Cup.

The Socceroos suffered a 3-2 defeat to world champions Germany in a spirited encounter in Sochi on matchday one.

Ange Postecoglou s side take on Cameroon on Thursday knowing that a defeat would put a semi-final spot beyond their reach if Germany and Chile draw in Kazan.

Australia s commitment to a more attacking style of play, even against international heavyweights, has drawn some criticism but Behich is confident their approach will pay dividends in St Petersburg.

It s 3am, the sun is up, but we ve made it to St Petersburg! A good night s sleep and we re back on deck in the morning!
