Pique on Barca-Madrid: The stats speak for themselves

Gerard Pique will congratulate Real Madrid if they win the Champions League, but pointed to Barcelona s recent record in a veiled dig at their fierce rivals.

Barca meet Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on Sunday as they go in search of a domestic double, having pipped Madrid to the Liga crown by one point.

But Madrid can assuage that disappointment by defeating city rivals Atletico in the Champions League final in Milan on May 28, as they seek glory in that competition for the 11th time.

In a media conference on Wednesday, Pique was asked if a potential double for Barca would outrank European success for Madrid this season.

Obviously winning the double I would take that every year but if they win the Champions League we ll have to congratulate them, …

´Incredible´ Lionesses put England under World Cup pressure – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola heaped praise on England s incredible Lionesses as he suggested their Euro 2022 triumph has put more pressure on Gareth Southgate s team ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Sarina Wiegman s side ended 56 years of major tournament hurt for England with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Germany in last month s Wembley final, going one better than the Three Lions did in their Euro 2020 penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy on the same ground.

The Lionesses sparkled throughout the tournament on home soil, scoring a remarkable 22 goals in six matches on their way to the title.

According to Manchester City boss Guardiola, their achievements should serve not only as an inspiration to women across the country, but also as a marker for their male counterparts.

Respect more important than Ballon d´Or for departing Barca great Iniesta

Andres Iniesta maintains he is unconcerned over never winning the Ballon d Or after calling time on his celebrated Barcelona career.

Iniesta announced on Friday he will leave Camp Nou at the end of this season, with Chinese Super League club Chongqing Lifan widely expected to be his next destination.

The 33-year-old is arguably the most unfortunate victim of the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo era as far as individual awards are concerned.

He finished as runner-up to long-time Barca colleague Messi in 2010 despite scoring the winner in that year s World Cup final for Spain, while he came in third in 2012 after being named player of the tournament at a triumphant Euro 2012.

France Football, the magazine behind the prestigious gong, took the unusual ste…
