Martinez´s Wigan future to be decided next week

Roberto Martinez s Wigan future will not be decided until next week, and chairman Dave Whelan remains confident he will remain at the club.

The Spaniard has been in charge at the DW Stadium since 2009, but after three seasons of battling to stay in the Premier League they finally lost their top-flight status this season sparking speculation about his future at the club.
Wigan s disappointment at relegation was diluted by winning the FA Cup, the first major trophy in their history, and the promise of European football is something Whelan hopes will convince his manager to stay.
A day after their FA Cup victory parade Whelan and Martinez met to discuss the future and the 39-year-old asked for time to think about his options.
The two met again on Thursday, and the 76-year-old revealed it had been a positive meeting in which he had asked his manager to give him time to contemplate what they had discussed.
We have had a good, constructive talk, he told Sky Sports News. Nothing about wages it is all about the club and can we move it forward in terms of the training facilities and youth development.
It is all tied up in that. He wants to do certain things and I m hoping I can assist in that but I want a day or two to look at it.
I don t want to say yes until I ve had time to think about it. It will be Monday before I can promise anything.
